DESIGN & FABRICATION: ROD PUPPETS

400.00

This is an 8-week workshop! $400

Grades 2-5

In this workshop, we will use a mix of high tech and classic construction methods to create our own rod puppet characters. We'll start with an Indonesian design that's over 500 years old, add 3D printed elements, and become clay and papier mache wizards in order to design and build our puppets, then we'll practice professional puppetry techniques to bring them to life.

Workshop Dates: 11/19, 12/3, 12/10, 12/17, 1/7, 1/14, 1/21, 1/28. No workshops 11/26 for Thanksgiving or 12/24 and 12/31 for Winter Break!

Jeff Wood is an interdisciplinary artist and educator in NY.  He's a co-founder of performance collective Piehole, with whom he makes "moments of unexpected beauty and…gratifying weirdness," so says the New York Times. When not leading kids in collaborative projects with odd combinations of hi- and lo-tech artistic tools, he works as a freelance video and projection designer at such venues as 3LD, BAM Harvey, Lightbox, HERE Arts Center, a former boy scout cabin at BEAM Camp, and an alley in Downtown Brooklyn.  He received his MFA from Brooklyn College’s Performance and Interactive Media Arts program, and has trained in physical theater and mask with Pig Iron Theater Company. He plays drums in Lame Drivers, who are about to release their debut LP after ten years as a band.
