Investigations in Technology and Craft for Middle Schoolers

Our faculty of artists, engineers, and craftspeople share their own practice with kids, from woodworking and electronics to moviemaking, digital media and handcraft. It's a community of learning, doing, and making that is inclusive to young people of all abilities and economic backgrounds.

WOODSHOP: VACUUM FORMING

This is an 8-week workshop! $400

Grades 6-8

Invented by Charles and Ray Eames, vacuum-forming is a process of glueing together layers of flexible plywood and using a vacuum as a 'clamp' to create flowing and curving wooden shapes. We'll be investigating this process as we make a small stool from scratch by creating a foam forming jig, and using a vacuum-cleaner to pull down layers of bending plywood to your shape, then sanding and sealing to have a functional stool.

Workshop Dates: 11/23, 11/30, 12/7, 12/14, 12/21, 1/4, 1/11, 1/25 No workshops 12/28 for Winter Break or 1/18, MLK Day!
