BEAMWORKS COLLABORATES WITH PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATIONS TO PREPARE TEENS FOR A POST-HIGH SCHOOL WORLD OF WORK AND CONTINUAL LEARNING.

Our BeamWorks Youth Learn & Lead apprenticeship program brings together high school students and Master creative practitioners on a collaborative project, learning technical skills in a specific discipline. The students also learn to lead elementary school students in workshops related to the Master’s creative practice.

Beam Center’s Domain Specialists collaborate with teachers in all subject areas to create hands-on in-classroom projects that connect to formal learning objectives. Students learn the skills and techniques necessary to execute their project -- electronics, coding, carpentry, metalwork, collaboration, innovation, and persistence. We partner with public schools to build their institutional capacity for project-based learning and teaching.

BeamWorks programs have received generous support from: the Pinkerton Foundation, The After School Corporation, The New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, The New York City Department of Youth and Community Development, Exploring the Arts Foundation and Mozilla Foundation.

Our partner schools include: Brooklyn International High School, Carroll Gardens School for Innovation, Fannie Lou Hamer Freedom High School, LAB Middle School, Bronx International High School, Bronx Academy for Software Engineering, Manhattan International High School, and Urban Assembly School for Design and Construction.
