Become a NYC Beam Project Fellow!

WANTED: Builders & Leaders for Spectacular Project

Calling all High School Students, aged 16+

Beam Center is gathering a select team of motivated young makers and builders to make the first ever NYC Beam Project happen! The NYC Beam Project is a spectacular, architect-designed project for public display in NYC. Project Fellows will learn new building skills and tools, interpret plans and blueprints, and lead teams of younger children and other community members to build the project.

Spring 2019 Project: Universal Play Machine

Designed for Beam Camp in 2016 by Chee Kit Lai & Will Atkins of Mobile Studio Architects, Beam Center is thrilled to build a new-and-improved version of the WORLD’S LARGEST FLIPBOOKS!

Fellowship Benefits:

  • Learn skills and tools in: Woodworking, Metalworking, Gears and Kinetic Mechanics, Electronics, Animation and CAD Drawing

  • Community service hours

  • Metrocard for transit to and from Beam Center/site

  • Professional project portfolio at completion of project

  • Leadership & teaching experience for college application & resume

  • Certificate of Program Completion

Fellowship open to:

  • All NYC high school students age 16 and up

  • Enthusiastic learners and collaborators

  • Applicants interested in making, building, and/or art

Time Commitment: This program requires a significant time commitment in Spring 2019. We expect youth to commit:

  • 1 afternoon per week Feb 1-June 10 (day TBD)

  • Midwinter Break - Feb 18-22

  • One weekend in March (TBD)

  • Spring Break - April 22-26

  • Anniversary Day - Thurs, June 6

Additional dates increasing until June 6 project debut possible.
