SCHOOL PICK UP: We pick up every day from PS 261, PS 38, PS 10, PS 29, PS 32, PS 372, and Mary McDowell; we can pick up from other schools with a minimum of 3 students. When you add a workshop to your cart, you'll have a chance to indicate if you want pick up. Email kathryn@beamcenter.org with any questions about pick up.

SHUTTLE SERVICE: After workshops each day, we run a shuttle to 51 Bergen St (in front of the Invisible Dog, half a block from the F/G at Bergen St). The shuttle arrives promptly at Bergen St at 5:45PM. The shuttles are $20 per kid for an 8-week workshop, and available on a first come, first-served basis; space is limited. Register for the shuttle here. Email kathryn@beamcenter.org with any questions.

WOODSHOP: STUDIO

This is an 8-week workshop! $400

In this workshop, we’ll learn the fundamentals of woodworking while exploring a variety of shop tools, such as saws, drills, and sanders. This class will be centered around a specific process called bent lamination: bending very thin strips of wood and glue over a curvy form to create otherwise impossible wooden twists and turns. We'll create our own projects using bent lamination and woodworking fundamentals.

Workshop Dates: 11/23, 11/30, 12/7, 12/14, 12/21, 1/4, 1/11, 1/25 No workshops 12/28 for Winter Break or 1/18, MLK Day!

In this workshop, we'll create our own short animations, and then build electro-mechanical projection devices to display them! We'll make two mini "projectors": a motor powered one and a microcontroller LED one. This workshop focuses on simple electronic skills, light, and mechanics.

See videos of the projector prototypes here and here

Workshop Dates: 11/24, 12/1, 12/8, 12/15, 1/5, 1/12, 1/19, and 1/26. No workshops 12/22 or 12/29 for winter break!

Printmaking is the art of creating images through image transfer (in simple terms printmaking is a way of squishing a picture from one surface onto another). In this studio workshop, students will explore multiple printmaking techniques including, styrofoam block, recycled collagraph, monoprint, digital pigment, and even fingerprinting and lego printing.   Using these techniques, students will create a series of mystery/adventure themed printing projects including Fingerprint Clue Envelopes, Spy Disguise Self Portraits, Origami Secret Heart Boxes, City Block Accordion Books, and Lego Treasure Maps!

Workshop Dates: 11/24, 12/1, 12/8, 12/15, 1/5, 1/12, 1/19, and 1/26. No workshops 12/22 or 12/29 for winter break!

PLEASE NOTE: This is an 7-WEEK workshop! $350

Grades 2-5

An arcade game can be many kinds of entertainment machine, ranging from a ball toss to a pin-ball machine and beyond. These days many of us have electronic video consoles at home, but can't we design our own games that don't need electricity to function? In this workshop, we'll use wood, cardboard, collage and found materials to build arcade games that make use of forces such as magnetism, gravity, or human energy to function.

Workshop Dates: 12/2, 12/9, 12/16, 1/6, 1/13, 1/20, and 1/27. No workshops 12/23 or 12/30 for Winter Break!
