Our Impact
Our goal is to support young people in developing more than just technical skills; we want to support youth as they grow as individuals. We provide creative and collaborative opportunities for more than 3,500 youth every year.
Each year, Beam Center collaborates with thousands of youth, teachers, and artists across NYC.
Our programs offer participants opportunities to take creative risks, to learn new skills, and to collaborate on big projects in unique ways. 96% of the youth we collaborate with self-identify as Black, Latin, Asian, and/or recently immigrated.

Beam's way of giving opportunities is to present challenging situations that push creativity and open up unanticipated opportunities for growth. Beam offers projects that require us to create and edit items to produce something authentic...as well as projects that can extend beyond the classroom. Unlike traditional education, Beam nurtures students in a transformative way. It is very rewarding for me to see my students learn and apply what they learn to improve their lives.

I think Beam can help me in so many ways. For example, learning patience or learning how to laser cut or learning how to prep throughout the day — these are all things I would need to do in a different role… If I were a lawyer, I’d also have to be patient. I’d have to prep for my day and use some form of technology to get ready for my day… And teaching people and doing public speaking is something that will help so many people.

2022 was the year of community expansion and renewal at Beam Center. As we formed new relationships with organizations and strengthened our existing partnerships, Beam leaned into the strength of the network we’ve built with and for young people.
