Let’s keep building together.

The incredible donors who joined us on Sunday gave an average of $500 each. Please consider making a gift like that now. We need just 100 more donations of $500 to get us to our Brunch goal for supporting NYC youth. We value and appreciate donations of any size and they all help to get us there — every gift counts!

We are extremely grateful for all those who joined us Sunday, May 19 to honor Danny and celebrate the 20 years of work Beam has been doing with youth. Thank you for coming to Greenpoint on a Sunday morning. Thank you for putting on the apron and being part of the project that is Beam Center. Thank you for providing the tools youth need to make spectacular things happen for themselves and their families.

Since Beam’s founding as a summer camp in 2004, Beam has blossomed into an ecosystem of year-round programming that serves more than 4,000 Black, Latin, Asian, and newly immigrated youth each year. Our programs take place in unique and transformative environments from Beam Camp in New Hampshire to Beam Camp City on Governors Island to schools and worksites across NYC. Through hands-on building and creative collaboration, Beam Center fosters the skills, ambition, and curiosity that help to lead young people forward to successful careers and continued learning.

Thank you for joining us in our work to bring educational equity and spectacular learning to young people all over NYC.

Our Honoree

Danny Kahn has spent his life and career bringing music, people and ideas together to make great things happen. Back in the 70’s, Danny was the co-founder and music director of one of the nation’s most eclectic public radio stations, and has spent over 40 years since working alongside singular artists like the Violent Femmes, 10000 Maniacs, Ornette Coleman, Gypsy Kings, and has stewarded the careers of incredible performers like the Bulgarian State Radio Female Vocal Choir and Rosanne Cash. In everything he does, Danny takes great pride in elevating talented people to the stages they deserve.

For over two decades, Danny has brought that same energy and commitment to the belief that all young people are capable of spectacular things and making Beam Center into their launch pad. We honor Danny Kahn for his service to Beam Center as truck driver, strategist, Board Chair, cheerleader, guru, teacher and more.
