Shaping Futures

WLG

Two weeks ago the project-building part of our Work, Learn and Grow (WLG) program concluded— and now youth are transitioning to their internship. Through our partnership with DYCD, Beam Center provides youth a chance to explore their career interests through making connections, building relationships and designing hands-on projects. Read below to find out what youth created in their career exploration journey.

Hanging Mobiles

Over the past two months, WLG participants created hanging mobiles highlighting the values and skills they will carry with them into their careers. While making the mobiles, youth developed technical skills, honed their interpersonal skills, and explored career interests.

They gained hands-on experience with ceramics, creating clay pendants to represent their values and interests; they also learned to use the wood shop, building wooden frames from which to suspend their pendants.

After completing their projects, participants were joined by their families and Beam staff to celebrate their work with a gallery walk. They received certificates of completion and learned about their internship placement while enjoying drinks and snacks.

Now the participants will move onto the next phase of their Work, Learn, and Grow journey: Internships. Follow along our social media to see updates of their internships.
