Luming
Meet Luming, this month’s Staff Spotlight feature. Luming is a Project Designer at Beam, where he works collaboratively with teachers from our partner schools to design and facilitate projects in the classroom.
As a newer member of Beam’s staff, Luming spent his first couple months working with students at the East Brooklyn Community High School to finish building FlipBooks. This project was originally started by another Project Designer and was inspired by our Beam Project NYC 2019, FlipNYC.
Luming has since shifted to the Apprenticeship team where he is working with both of our Spring Apprenticeship cohorts. In collaboration with the team, Luming is co-teaching introductory textiles skills, including sewing techniques, natural dyeing, wool spinning, and embroidery. Each of these skills will be used at Beam Camp City as we build for our Beam Project Governors Island, Tree Chaungs.
In addition to his work at Beam Center, Luming volunteers with a Queens-based mutual aid organization, Sunnyside & Woodside Mutual Aid (SWMA). As a volunteer, Luming regularly assists members of his community with a variety of tasks, including moving, home repairs, connecting people with legal resources, transportation, and deliveries and pickups of medical, legal, and food needs.
Thanks for being a part of Beam, Luming!
