OtherWorlds Fair 2024
Beam Center’s OtherWorlds Fair is a brand-new free festival on Governors Island designed and run by NYC public high school students. Produced in collaboration with Beam Center, OtherWorlds Fair offers people of all ages hands-on workshops, exhibits and performances in Fashion, Food, Storytelling, Design and Music that showcase the joyous fusion of cultures, identities and creative visions of today's New York City teenagers.

A celebratory brunch to help support our continued work with the young people of NYC.

As Beam branches out, we extend our practice of collaborative project-making to a multitude of communities in Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Manhattan, reaching over 6,000 youth (ages 13-21) and their families each year. Our programs are tailored to serve NYC youth and their educators and take place in public school classrooms in all five boroughs, at the Beam Center in Red Hook, at Beam Camp City in Governors Island and at Beam Camp in Strafford, New Hampshire.
This May, we’re inviting you to support this work through our “Branching Out with Beam” celebratory brunch. Learn more about our honorees and sponsors!
Edison Escape
Join the Beam Center community and Thomas Edison CTE High School on Saturday, May 7 as we celebrate “Edison Escape.” “Edison Escape '' is the result of a multi-year collaboration between Thomas Edison CTE High School and Beam Center.
Illuminating Lewis Latimer’s Brooklyn Story: A Conversation on Latimer's Life and Work in 19th-Century Brooklyn
Join us as we continue to celebrate public art sculpture BEACON and pay tribute to pioneer electrical engineer and Brooklyn resident, Lewis Howard Latimer.
BEACON artist, Shervone Neckles; Brooklyn historian and scholar, Prathibha Kanakamedala; Lewis Latimer House Museum Director, Ran Yan; Beam Center Director, Brian Cohen; and Downtown Brooklyn Partnership President, Regina Myer together explore Latimer's life, work, and activism in Brooklyn during the turn of the 19th century.
Event will be virtual, taking place on Zoom.

Beam Center Town Hall: Big Beam Projects
Join us Wednesday, June 30 for a Town Hall conversation about big projects at Beam. Moderated by a Beam staff member, Project Designers Shervone Neckles and Ye Qin Zhu will explore the process of designing, fabricating, and collaborating with Beam. Following the conversation with Neckles and Zhu, Beam staff will announce this year’s Open Call for three project sites: in New Hampshire, on Governors Island, and in the Bronx.

Our two-day annual Inventgenuity Festival will feature hands-on learning, technology-integrated crafts, and a site specific, community built, collaborative project. Also, the first ever Beam Team Brooklyn project will be on display for all to see!
Free admission to the event; pre-registration is strongly suggested. Workshops require registration and have a small materials fee associated.
