Inventgenuity Festival 2022: Event Recap
Thank you to everyone who attended our annual Inventgenuity Festival on Governors Island! During our two-day family-friendly festival, youth and their families participated in workshops hosted by Beam Center and our guest organization, the Lewis Latimer House Museum. Participants enjoyed performances organized and performed by youth from another partner organization, Building Beats.
Ahmad Choudhry
This month's installment of our Community Spotlight series features the youngest member of Beam Center’s Board of Trustees, Ahmad Choudhry. Ahmad is a first-generation college student at Baruch Macaulay Honors College, majoring in Finance and minoring in New York City Studies. Along with being a student at Baruch, Ahmad is working at Rothschild & Co, an investment banking company.
A Community Approach to Art: Event Recap
Thank you to everyone who attended our July program “A Community Approach to Art: Supporting Communities by Engaging Artists + Youth.” A panel conversation, this program explored different approaches to community engagement in the arts and the importance of connecting practicing artists with young people.
Romina Schulz
This month’s installment of our Staff Spotlight series features our Project Designer and Fabric Specialist, Romina Schulz. Romina is a researcher and a visual artist that currently works mainly with textiles and ceramic. She holds a Bachelor in Fine Arts, with a major in painting, from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Peru. Romina continued her training with several Peruvian pre-hispanic textile courses, such as brocade weaving, Paracas ringed knitting, and backstrap weaving.
My Beam Internship: Endy
Hi everyone! My name is Endy, and I have been working with Beam Center for almost a year. I’ve spent the last six months working as the Communications Intern. As we wrap up summer here at Beam, I wanted to talk about my experience at Beam and its importance to me.
Ye Qin Zhu
We are excited to announce this month's installment of our Community Spotlight series featuring artist Ye Qin Zhu. Last year, Ye designed both of our big projects for Beam Camp and Beam Camp City. He is an interdisciplinary artist with a wide-ranging practice that encompasses painting, public art, and social practice. Ye was briefly a member of Beam Center’s staff beginning in 2017 before leaving to pursue his artistic practice. In 2021, he proposed a project through our annual Open Call for Big Projects. Later Ye was asked to also propose a project for our first summer at Beam Camp City.

Beam Camp is about halfway over, and the big project is coming along, so there’s no better time to introduce you to the team that prototyped this summer’s Beam Camp big project. Meet the Spring 2022 Fellows cohort!
Breanna Hayes
This month’s installment of our Staff Spotlight series features our Program Facilitator, Breanna Hayes. Breanna became part of Beam Center in 2017 when she was recruited to the Apprenticeship program from the Boys and Girls High School.
Sarah Lammer
This month’s installment of our Staff Spotlight series features Beam Project Designer, Sarah Lammer. As a Project Designer Sarah works collaboratively with teachers from our partner schools to design and facilitate projects in classrooms.

Shirley Kahn
There’s no better way to close out the month of May than with a very special Community Spotlight feature. We’re pleased to honor Mrs. Shirley Kahn, the mother of our Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board, Danny Kahn, in advance of her 100th birthday in June. We had the pleasure of speaking with Shirley about her life and her own unique connection to summer camp.

Kathryn Wallem
This month’s installment of our Staff Spotlight series features our Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Kathryn Wallem. As the CFO, Kathryn manages Beam Center’s money and helps us keep everything in order. Her day-to-day work includes collecting invoices, writing checks, managing budgets, and much more.
