This month’s installment of Beam’s Staff Spotlight series features Beam's Director of School Partnerships, Jeff Wood. As the Director of School Partnership, Jeff arranges collaborations between school faculty and Beam Project Designers to create ambitious and transformative project-based experiences for young people in their school communities.

This month’s installment of our Community Spotlight series features one of the fellows from the Project Production Team, Taemar. Taemar first participated in our Spring 2022 Apprenticeship program, hosted through the Work Based Learning Coalition (WBLC) program.

As we count down to the Beam Benefit Brunch in May, we want to shine our light on this year’s honoree, Fabian Jabro. Fabian has been a Beam inspiration from the very beginning, and he’s been a part of our community through our many evolutions.

This month’s installment of Beam’s Staff Spotlight series features our Director of Industry and Externship, Em Eason. In this role, they facilitate the placement of young people in summer and school year employment.

The next edition of our Community Spotlight series features Xinchang Gao. Xinchang, who is also known as Edwin, is a Junior Interior Designer at Bennett Leifer Interior, an interior design firm focused on high-end residential projects across the states.

Our Project Designers have been hard at work preparing projects for Spring 2023 and some projects are already in progress. Take a look at the projects below to see what young people are making this spring!

This month’s installment of Beam’s Staff Spotlight series features our Program Associate for Project Leaders, Sayma Mishi. Working with the program’s Director, Lizzie, Mishi spends her time prototyping creative and kid-friendly projects, assisting Project Leaders with their prototyping, preparing snacks, and managing program materials and setup.

Katherine, from the Fall 2022 Fellows program, wrote her own blog talking about her experience as Fellow and her journey through Beam. Katherine felt more comfortable writing in Spanish, so you will find the Spanish version and a translated version of her blog here.

We are excited to announce our 2023 -2024 Beam Project Governors Island: seeAsaw, to be built at Beam Camp City during summer 2023. seeAsaw is an interactive and immersive structure of 6 seesaws, connected by a spectacular draping hammock made from rescued fishing nets, which moves in wave-like motions that are reminiscent of the sea. seeAsaw was designed by Andre kong studio in collaboration with Ruben Correia and Ghost Diving USA.

This month’s installment of our Community Spotlight series features Korean-American Humanities teacher at Bronx International High School (BxIHS), David Choi. Before beginning his tenure at Bronx International HS, David taught English at a school in Korea for two years.

After taking a brief break to celebrate with family and friends, we’re back for another year of project -making, collaboration with youth, and lots of fun. 2022 was full of ambitious projects, talented young people, and special moments, many of which you can read about in our Annual Report. As we approach the new year, we wanted to take a moment to pause and reflect on some incredible things we have accomplished with youth this year.

This month’s installment of Beam’s Staff Spotlight series features our Beam Camp’s co-Director, Dondo Zakheim. Dondo has worked at Beam Center, Beam Camp’s umbrella organization, for 7 years during which they facilitated past summer day camp programs, in-school projects, and more.
